Orangeburg County Main Library

The Orangeburg County Library is a Countywide system with libraries in Orangeburg, North, Holly Hill, Elloree, Branchville, Santee, Springfield, a bookmobile, and book deposits for senior citizens at several locations.

Governed by a seven-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Orangeburg County Council, the Library's primary funding comes from Orangeburg County, with additional support from the State of South Carolina, through federal grants for specific projects, and from private donations.

    Ancestry.com's Library Edition - Powered by ProQuest

    The Orangeburg County Library is now equipped with a powerful genealogy research tool - ProQuest's Ancestry search engine! Powered by Ancestry.com, the Ancestry Library Edition is an expansive collection of familial data with a scope reaching deep into the past to allow users the potential to discover their lineage. This tool is freely available to library card holders but can only be accessed at the main library or one of the branch locations.

  • Information about Social Security Initiatives

    Later this year, Social Security will be launching their third annual Mother's Day and Father's Day campaigns promoting the Extra Help with Medicare prescription drug plan costs. The Social Security administration will release updated information as to when these new outreach materials are available.     Social Security is involved in a wide variety of new and important initiatives. Visit www.SocialSecurity.gov for additional information.

    One of the initiatives is the new national campaign Retire Online. It's So Easy! This campaign features a new online retirement application that can be completed in as little as 15 minutes. The application is available online at www.SocialSecurity.gov, and can easily be completed at any of our library computers. A brochure on the subject can be viewed at this location.

    In May 2009, as a result of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Social Security will distribute a one-time payment of $250 to over 55 million Social Security and Supplemental Security Income beneficiaries. A leaflet which discusses this in greater detail is available online at this location.
