Santee Fatal Investigation

7/12/2012 - Orangeburg County Sheriff Leroy Ravenell releases officers are investigating a death at the Gentlemens Club on Bass Drive in Santee.

Ravenell explains "Officers were called to the club on Thursday shortly after 3 a.m. in reference to a shooting. Our preliminary investigation indicates a 53-year-old Vance man was escorted out of the club by two security guards after being disruptive. The Vance man pulled a gun on the security guards once they were outside the club and the guards and the suspect began fighting for the weapon. The gun went off and the 19-year-old security guard was shot in the hip. The 53-year-old Vance man was struck during the altercation, fell to the ground, and never got up."

Ravenell continues "We are in the initial stages of this investigation. We are analyzing forensic evidence and awaiting autopsy results to determine cause of death and the timeline of events."

The 19-year-old security guard was treated for the gunshot injury. The 22-year-old security guard was not injured.
