Welcome to the Orangeburg County Library - Policy Information
Your Library Card
  • Is free to all residents of Orangeburg County.
  • Is available to anyone of any age. Children under 15 must have a parent or guardian with them to obtain a library card. This person must also apply, or already have a library card on file.
  • Is needed to check out items.
  • Can be used at any location of the Orangeburg County Library and the Bookmobile.
  • Should be reported missing immediately. Patrons are responsible for all charges up to the time of the report.
  • Can be replaced for a $3.00 fee.
  • Verification of current address is needed to obtain a library card.

Non-residents of Orangeburg County may also apply for a card. There is a $5.00 yearly fee for the card.

*If you forget to bring your library card with you, we will allow you to use your driver's license or picture ID from the Highway Dept. to check out materials.


Returning Materials

Any materials checked out may be returned to any library in the system or the bookmobile.

Outside Return Drop-Boxes:
Outside return drop-boxes are available at each library location where materials can be left after closing.

Magazines (limit of 6)
(latest issues can not be checked out)

Books on CD (limit of 6)* 3 weeks
Videos (limit of 6)* 3 days
DVDs (limit of 6)* 3 days
* Patrons must be at least 18 years old to check
out videos, audios, CDs and DVDs.

All outstanding fines, fees, and overdue materials must be cleared before checking out any new items.

Renewals:
Items can be renewed two (2) times if no requests have been made for the item. Renewals may be made by calling the library from which you borrowed the materials, coming to the library, or through the patron's account at: http://catalog.library.orangeburgcounty.org/polaris

Overdue Fees:
There is a late charge for overdue items.

  • Books & Magazines → 10¢ per day, per item
  • Videos, Audios, CDs & DVDs → $1.00 per day, per item
Overdue Notification:
Notifications of overdue materials are sent to library users by either e-mail, telephone, or postal mail.

Once materials have been overdue for 60 days, the library then works with Unique Management Services, a library collection agency, to ensure that all materials are returned.

Prompt return of all library materials enables the library to continue to provide good services to everyone!
