The Honorable Betty Bates-Gray

Judge Bates-Gray was first appointed a magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1991. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from South Carolina State University. She is a member of the National Judges Association and the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association. She is a member of St. George Baptist Church.

The Honorable Rita W. Brown

Judge Rita W. Brown was first appointed magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1986. Judge Brown has been a member of the South Carolina Summary Court Administration for 22 years. She served as Chief Magistrate of Orangeburg County from 1992 until 1999. Judge Brown co-chaired the SCSCJA Legislative Committee for four years. This committee was instrumental in the passing of the Magistrate’s pay-bill. She has served as the past chair of SCSCJA Education Committee. She is a member of the American Judges Association and currently serves as the state director for the National Judges Association. She is a National Judicial College faculty member and has completed a two year course sponsored by State Justice Institute for Non-Attorney Judges. She was appointed by Chief Justice Harwell in 1992 to serve and currently serves as a member of the Magistrate’s Certification Board. She served as the SCSCJA treasurer for ten years. She was appointed by Chief Justice Toal in 2006 to serve as the Chief Magistrate of Allendale County. Judge Brown was born in Orangeburg County and resides in Springfield with her husband of 47 years, Charles Ray Brown. They have three children and six grandchildren. She is the business partner in the family Agri-business.

The Honorable Derrick Dash

Judge Derrick Dash has served as a part-time magistrate for Orangeburg County for 13 years. He was born and raised in Orangeburg County. He is a resident of Elloree and received his degree from Benedict College. He is also employed as an educator for Orangeburg County School District #3. He attends Andrew Chapel Baptist Church and is a member of Olive Grove Masonic Lodge #477. He professionally affiliated with The South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association, the National Judge’s Association, and SCEA, and NEA. He enjoys basketball, football, and his grandkids.

The Honorable Samuel A. Daily

Judge Daily was first appointed magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1993. He was appointed as Chief Magistrate in July of 2007 and is currently serving. He is a graduate of Roberts High School, Holly Hill, SC; American Association of Industrial Management, Dedham, Mass.; National Judicial College, Special Jurisdiction, Reno, Nevada; and South Carolina State University, Orangeburg, South Carolina. He is member of American Judges Association, National Judges Association, South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association and New Galilee Christian Church DOC, Holly Hill, South Carolina, where he serves as Elder of the Church. Judge Daily was born in St. George, and reared in Holly Hill, where he currently resides with his wife, Lue G. Daily of 35 years. They have four children and thirteen grandchildren.

The Honorable Peggy D. Doremus

Judge Peggy Doremus was first appointed a magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1991. She serves in the Central Region office as a full-time magistrate.

The Honorable Jacob Gillens, Sr.

Judge Jacob Gillens, Sr. was first appointed a magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1985. He was born and currently resides in Eutawville. He serves as a part-time magistrate and an education specialist for Orangeburg County Consolidated School District Five. He is a member of the Masonic Lodge, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, NEA, SCEA, NBA, National Judges Association, and the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association. He is a member of Unity Missionary Baptist Church and enjoys golf, fishing, and exercising. He is married to Carolyn Gillens. They have six children, Corin, Lana, Jacob Jr., Bradford, Kioniona, and John.

The Honorable John Cecil Moore, Jr.

Judge John Cecil Moore, Jr. was first appointed a magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1992. He was appointed Associate Chief Magistrate in July 2007. He was born in Cameron, South Carolina and currently resides in North. Prior to appointment as a magistrate, Judge Moore worked for the South Carolina Department of Revenue.

The Honorable Richard Murray

Judge Richard Murray was first appointed magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1993. He serves as a part-time magistrate. He resides in Branchville and also currently serves as the municipal judge for the town of Branchville. He worked at Applied Engineering before his appointment. He is a member of A.F.A.M. PHA and the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association. Judge Murray is a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church. He enjoys fishing, is married, and has four children.

The Honorable Willie Robinson, Jr.

Judge Willie Robinson was born and resides in Orangeburg. He was appointed to serve as a full-time magistrate in 1990. He served as the Associate Chief Magistrate from 1992-1999 and as Chief Magistrate from 1999-2007. He is a cum laude graduate of South Carolina State University and served in private sector management prior to appointment. He is a member of A.F.A.M.PHA and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He is also a member of the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association, the National Judges Association, and the American Judges Association. He is a member of the United Methodist Church of Orangeburg and enjoys playing golf. Judge Robinson is married and the father of four children.

The Honorable Donald R. West

Judge West was first appointed magistrate for Orangeburg County in 1985. He serves as a part-time magistrate. He was born in Orangeburg County and currently resides in Bowman. He is a member of the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association. He also serves as the municipal judge for the town of Bowman. Judge West is married and has one child.

The Honorable Meree D. Williamson

Judge Meree Williamson was appointed a magistrate for Orangeburg County in 2004. She was born and currently resides in Norway. She serves as a part-time magistrate. Judge Williamson received a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from the University of South Carolina. She is a member of the National Judges Association, the South Carolina Summary Court Judges Association, the South Carolina Pharmaceutical Association, and St. Johns United Methodist Church in Norway. She is married to Joey Williamson and they have two sons.
