Captain of Field Services - La'Cra Jenkins
Captain La'Cra Jenkins is responsible for the Field Services (patrol) division and the Communications unit. Jenkins is a 10 year veteran with all of his service being rendered as a deputy of the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office.
Jenkins has been promoted through the ranks because of his commitment to law enforcement. Over his career, he has been involved in numerous narcotic cases as well as being first on the scene is some high profile cases.
He is certified as a basic instructor by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.
Jenkins earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from South Carolina State University.
Division Description
The Field Services Division is commonly known as our patrol division. These men and women are the initial responders to citizen's calls for service. Their primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of citizens, visitors, and business owners. In addition to responding to calls and conducting some criminal investigations, Field Services Deputies also work proactively by ensuring safety on the roads, monitoring neighborhoods and communities for criminal activity, and developing relationships with the residents in their patrol region.
Areas of Responsibility
Communications (Dispatch) - All emergency and non-emergency calls for services are answered by dispatchers. For non-emergencies call, (803) 534-3550.
Desk Sergeant - A Desk Sergeant is on duty during regular business hours at the 1520 Ellis Avenue building to complete incident reports for individuals where physical evidence does not have to be examined, collected, or processed.
Reserve Deputies - Reserve Deputies are volunteers that work a minimum of 20 hours each month by responding to calls for service, working special events, and assisting the agency in providing certified manpower.
Reserve deputies must successfully complete 12 hours of in-service training annually. In-service training will count towards their total monthly duty hours. Reservists must meet the same firearm qualification requirements as full-time deputies.
