

Orangeburg County is not considered a coastal county and therefore does not meet the definition of hurricane prone regions. Orangeburg County does adopt the current issue of all of the International Codes, and NFPA 70 as they are adopted by the Building Code Council for the State of South Carolina.
Residential Projects may be designed using the prescriptive requirements of the current edition of the International Residential Code providing that they do not exceed 3 stories in height above grade.
Plan submittal will require the following:
- 2-sets of site plans
- Site plans shall show the proposed location of the new home or addition with measurements depicting the distances to property lines.
- 2-sets of construction drawings

Requirements for industrial, multi-family and commercial plan submittal:
- 2-Copies of engineered site plans
- 2-copies of construction drawings
- Wind exposure category
- Seismic Zone project is designed to
- Wind Zone project is designed to
- Occupancy use classification
Note: Multi-family projects will not be issued certificates of occupancy for individual units; certificates of occupancy will only be issued per building. Separate building permits as well as trade permits will have to be taken out for each building. Electrical permits will have to be obtained per unit per building and for each additional meter location. All other trades will obtain permits for each building.
