Responsibilities

The Clerk of Court’s Office provides administrative support for the 1st Judicial Circuit Court and Family Court. The Clerk of Court is elected Countywide and serves a four-year term. This office:

  • Handles reporting requirements
  • Maintains court records
  • Maintains dockets of the court
  • Receives and disburses child support fees, fines and costs

The office also processes legal actions of a civil nature in which the demand of value of property involved exceeds $7,500. 

Maintenance of Records

The Clerk of Court office is responsible for maintaining records of cases heard in the Court of Common Pleas and Court of General sessions, which involve civil disputes between two or more parties. Records of Family Court are also maintained at the Clerk of Court Office, including:

  • Abuse and Neglect
  • Adoptions
  • Bond Issues
  • Child Support
  • Divorce Proceedings
  • Domestic Abuse
  • Interstate Custody
  • Juvenile, Domestic Relations

Civil Jury, Non-Jury trials, Family Court, and Circuit Court are scheduled by the Clerk of Court’s office. Copies of all records maintained by the Clerk of Court’s Office are available by request.
