Almost Forever
- Author: Maria Testa
- Reviewer: Rachel Bradford, Age 13
This book is very short (69 pages), but don’t be fooled. This is a very heartwarming book about a father who goes off to be a doctor in Vietnam. His daughter has lots of feelings, and she wishes that a year was not so long. I recommend that everyone read this book!
Fire from the Rock
- Author: Sharon Draper
- Reviewer: Kevin Campbell, Age 14
I usually do not like books about segregation, but this book really had me hyped about the events that were going on.
Green River Killer: A True Detective Story
- Author: Jeff Jenson
- Reviewer: Melanie Reddick, Age 12
This book was very interesting. It helped me to understand a serial killer’s mind. It was also full of suspense.
Hatchet
- Author: Gary Paulsen
- Reviewer: Kobie Kirven, Age 13
Hatchet is a well written and suspenseful book. I, as a reader, loved the suspense as the main character, Brian, fights for survival in an effort to save himself from animals, starvation and sickness.
Infamous
- Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
- Reviewer: Kevin Campbell, Age 14
Sherrilyn’s books, with their descriptiveness, create awesome images. Before I read this book, I had how it was going to end all planned out in my head. But Sherrilyn amazed me once again with her unpredictability.
Never Been Kissed
- Author: Melody Carlson
- Reviewer: Taylore Hunter, Age 16
I feel that this book deserves five stars. It is about a teenage girl who is new at her high school and has a crush on the popular girl’s boyfriend. He also likes her. But somehow, inappropriate pictures get out on the internet. She believes that her faith in God can help her get out of this misunderstanding. This book is so relatable to the average teenager. I also love that the author incorporated God into her novel, because I am a Christian as well. While I was reading this book, it kept me on my toes because it was so suspenseful. I couldn’t help but reading page after page to find out what was going to happen next. This book is very well-rounded because it includes romance, religion, faith and suspense. This is my number one book.
No Disrespect
- Author: Sister Souljah
- Reviewer: Denisia Rowe, Age 16
Sister Souljah is a solid thinker and author who is boldly outspoken on her opinions of love, spirituality and the human race, especially regarding African Americans.
Princess Sonora & the Long Sleep
- Author: Gail Carson Levine
- Reviewer: Brooke Butler, Age 13
Princess Sonora and the Long Sleep is absolutely remarkable. Giving the story “Sleeping Beauty” a twist, Levine makes her readers laugh with her outstanding, whimsical characters. This book should be read by all who like princess tales with a twist.
Purity
- Author: Jackson Pearce
- Reviewer: Diamond Sullivan, Age 14
In this novel, Shelby Crewe had to stick to three promises she made with her mom before her mom died. Shelby didn’t know what the promises meant, but throughout the novel, she understands them and grows closer to her dad.
Surrender the Heart
- Author: Mary Lu Tyndall
- Reviewer: Brittany Butler, Age 17
Surrender the Heart is a life-changing book. As the characters discover God’s destiny for their lives, the reader is made to consider his own destiny and heart. I enjoyed this book because it spoke of God’s love for everyone. If I could give this book more than five stars, I gladly would.
Teenage Love Affair
- Author: Ni-Ni Simone
- Reviewer: Diamond Jamison, Age 14
Teenage Love Affair is a very good book. It taught me a life lesson before I even turned 17, which was not to follow in the main character’s footsteps.
The Enchantress
- Author: Michael Scott
- Reviewer: Amber Ossewaarde, 16
This long awaited novel delivers all that it promised and more. With well-timed revelations and explosive action, the story races to a close. Will the two that are one become the one that is all?
The First Part Last
- Author: Angela Johnson
- Reviewer: Taylor Nicole Howell, Age 16
I feel that this book deserves five stars because it is a really deep, heartfelt story. I love the whole plot of the story. I love how well Angela Johnson used imagery when she would describe the simplest things. I love how she created the character of Bobby and the way he took responsibility for Feather. I would constantly reread this book.
The Hunger Games
- Author: Suzanne Collins
- Reviewer: Benjiman Williams, Age 14
This book starts off slow, then bam, it hits you in the face with blood and action-filled details.
Vespers Rising
- Authors: Rick Riordan and Friends
- Reviewer: Amber Ossewaarde, Age 16
This book is a synopsis of the Cahill history, from the time of Gideon up until the present. This is a must read for any 39 Clues fan!
Warriors: Forest of Secrets
- Author: Erin Hunter
- Reviewer: Daniel Ossewaarde, Age 12
This book is very well written, delivering everything the right way. The happy moments and the sad moments make you want to laugh and cry. Add great characters and an interesting plot, and you’ve got a forest of secrets!
Warriors: Into the Wild
- Author: Erin Hunter
- Reviewer: Daniel Ossewaarde, Age 12
This is a great book. No book has grabbed my attention as much as this one did. The action makes you feel like you are there. My only complaint was that the ending came too soon. Luckily, there are over 40 books by Ms. Erin about Warriors. Yes, please!
