E. Madison "Matt" Stokes was appointed to serve as Orangeburg County Treasurer on January 31, 2018. The Orangeburg County Legislative Delegation recommended Stokes to the Governor's Office for the appointment. Stokes was vetted through the Governor's Office and met all the requirements. He was elected to the office of Orangeburg County Treasurer in November 2018 for his first four year term.
Education
Matt Stokes is a lifelong resident of Orangeburg County and is a Branchville native. Matt graduated from Branchville High School and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Clemson University. He is a graduate of the South Carolina Highway Patrol Training School at the SCCJA, South Carolina Bankers School at the University of South Carolina and the Graduate School of Banking at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA.
Previous Experience
Stokes served as Vice President at Farmers and Merchants Bank of South Carolina in Bowman for nearly twelve years. Previously, he was a Loan Officer for four years at First National Bank of SC in Holly Hill. He also served with the SC Highway Patrol assigned to Georgetown County and later assigned to Orangeburg County for almost eight years. He is a member of the SC Association of Auditors, Treasurers, and Tax Collectors. Stokes is a member of the Branchville Masonic Lodge and the Bowman Masonic Lodge. He served as an at-large member of the Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees for four years and was chairman of the finance committee for three of those years.
Current Service & Personal Life
He is the President and Manager of the Orangeburg County Fair Association. Matt serves as chairman of the finance committee and is a member of Providence United Methodist Church. Matt and his wife, the former Tiffany R. Bozard of Bowman, have one grown daughter, Kayla, who lives in Columbia. Matt and Tiffany reside in the Providence community.
